Sugar: How to Break Your Addiction

Father and daughter preparing a mealThe average person consumes approx. 22 teaspoons of sugar every day and our children consume much more daily too.  This can lead us into a prediabetic and or diabetic type 2 situation.

Sugar has been proven to be biologically addictive. Even more addictive than many of the street drugs such as cocaine. Sugar and flour hijack your taste buds, your brain chemistry, your hormones and your metabolism, (a process in the body which regulates the state of change in burning fat, regulating sugar levels, keeping your neurons firing etc.)

The question is how do you break the addiction? How do you take back your health?

The problem is THE MORE SUGAR YOU EAT THE MORE SUGAR YOU CRAVE.

The key to handling this is to consume addictive reversal foods that rewire your brain.

  1. Make a decision to break the sugar habit.
  2. Stop consuming all forms of sugar and flour and artificial sweeteners immediately.
  3. Cut out packaged processed foods.
  4. Cut out sweet drinks.
  5. Add protein to every meal, whole eggs, fish, meat, nuts etc.
  6. Eat only non-starchy veg such as broccoli , asparagus, onions, green beans, etc.
  7. Eat good fats in every meal, nuts, cocoa butter, and omega 3 from fish.
  8. Manage your stress. When your stress levels go up your cortisol levels go up which makes your body hungry and crave sugar.
  9. Cut out gluten and avoid as much dairy as possible.
  10. Sleep: you need at least 8 hours of sleep each night. When you get less than this your hunger hormones increase and you can overeat.
  11. In order to strengthen your resolve come to Get Back Health Chiropractic and Wellness Clinic and get your spine adjusted this week. This will realign your nervous system and help put you on the road to achieving the above program efficiently.
