In his book “Sapiens” Yuval Noah Harari says:
“The pursuit of an easier life resulted in much hardship and not for the last time. It happens to us today. How many college graduates have taken demanding jobs in high powered firms, vowing to work hard to earn money that will enable them to retire when they are 35 years old. But by the time they reach that age they have a large mortgage, children, two cars and expensive holidays abroad. And what do they do, they double their efforts and keep slaving on……
Over the last few decades we have invented countless time saving devices that are supposed to make life more relaxed – washing machines, vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, telephones, mobile phones, computers, and emails.
Today I received dozens of emails, all from people who expect a reply. We thought we were saving time, instead we have revved up the treadmill of life to ten times its former speed and made our days more anxious and agitated”
Buddha says “It is not wealth and power that enslave men but the clinging to wealth and power”
Tips:
Work out some quality down time for you and your partner this weekend or just you and let go of the need to rush at things.
Start your day making an effort to listen to people especially when they have something personal to say. Realise you are the terminal for someone out there so listen and have a kind word.
Exercise and don’t think while you exercise.
