In her book “The Body Book” Cameron Diaz says:
“So why are humans- who are smart enough to learn how to fly, to get a man on the moon, to invent the internet – foolish enough to keep eating food until we make ourselves sick, literally nauseated because we have stuffed our bodies beyond our need for immediate nourishment. The answer lies in our genes. And in the word APPETITE”
So Hunger is our body’s natural signal for nourishment, rooted in innate wisdom.
When we scavenged for food prior to the agricultural revolution we often overate as we couldn’t be sure of the next meal and that worked very well until there was a drastic shift in food accessibility.
Diaz says, ” Food is no longer available only seasonally or when we track it down and kill it. And so it is essential to understand how hunger and appetite work if we want to stay healthy in the face of overabundance of processed, imported, convenient, inexpensive foods”
“Eating is a chemical reaction from beginning to end. Your body breaks down food into basic nutritional components and your hunger is prompted by your body’s need for nutrition. When you are hungry and you eat whole foods, your body’s needs are satisfied. But when you eat foods that include a lot of added sugars, those sugars bypass your “I’m full” system and keep your brain asking for more.”
Hence your need for discipline and courage in the face of modern advertising of ultra processed foods.
Tips:
1. Take all the processed and sugar foods out of your kitchen. Out of sight is out of mind. Do this for 3 weeks allowing yourself two treats a week.
2. Eat foods that are natural like fruit, and green vegetables.
3. When you are desiring sugar or processed foods, drink a half pint of water immediately and then assess the situation.
4. Come to the Get Back Health Chiropractic and Wellness Clinic this week and reinforce your ability to have the courage to say no to too much food. Get your nervous system realigned.
