Action Delivers Outcome

couple smilingWe all try endlessly to figure this and that out, oftentimes for ages before we take any real action towards a solution.

We want to lose weight, we want to exercise, we want to stop eating pastries each and every day, we want to drink less alcohol, we want to be nicer people to ourselves and others, we want to be healthy, we want to get on in life and many more important actions.

However many of us get into our heads too much or are afraid of what change might bring for of fear upsetting those close to us.  And yet if you look back on your life it was those very moments when you usually, all by yourself made a decision, and took action and finally ended up with a result.

I personally somehow got back into eating the odd pastry every other day, the excuses for doing so can be endless. Now it so happens that I am gluten intolerant and still I continued to eat these wheat/ sweet pastries.

After 6 months of this, knowing I was off the rails, and that the consequences would be severe pain etc I started by cutting out one day, Sunday, and kept that up for 2 weeks and then cut out other days until I was not eating them.  The trouble didn’t stop there of course as the inflammation, headaches fatigue etc. continued until most of the gluten was out of my system.

In his book Atomic Habits, James Clear says:

“Habit formation is the process by which behaviour becomes progressively more automatic through repetition. The more you repeat an activity the more the structure of your brain changes to become efficient at that activity.  With each repetition cell to cell signaling improves and the nural (brain nerves) connections tighten. You need to string together enough successful attempts until the behaviour is firmly embedded in your mind and you cross the habit line”

So habits can go both ways for good and bad.

The recent success of our swimmers and field athletes know and use this rule all the time. So failure is not an option you just need to continue to take action steps day after day and even YOU will make it. Good Luck.

Tips:

1) Read James Clears book Atomic habits and see how small changes often can really make a huge difference in your life.

2) Write down 3 goals you want to achieve this year. then write out a project for each one and start to take action.  A project is a series of steps that lead to a combined outcome.

3) Look around and see who you are being influenced by in relation to habits that you really don’t want to do and take any action small tiny actions, polite action but work toward being you.

4) Come to the Get Back Health Chiropractic and Wellness Clinic this week and get your nervous system realigned and get your spine adjusted and freed up.
